Audio-visual Indexing and Automatic Analysis: How to Bridge the Gap?

INA (that stands for Institut National de l’Audiovisuel) is the French institute in charge of the archiving for radio and television. INA archives programs broadcasted by the French public radio or TV channels. But INA is also in charge of the legal deposit for Audiovisual: INA archives a selection of all programs broadcasted in France, be they by private or public channels. As a consequence, INA has to manage a huge amount of documents, so as to preserve them from the physical destruction due to the corruption of the storage support, restore them because of the alteration of the information encoded on the storage support, and retrieve them when it is useful.
